You may be too busy running a business and organizing activities here and there but if there is one thing I recommend my clients to do on top of their busy work is to spend time validating their online accounts. There are free platforms to use that can help establish digital presence with easy action point magnifying reach to the right audience. What more, it is pretty much simple to do
1. Google My Business – Submit your website and confirm your information via call (thru the contact number you have indicated) or via postal mail (get the code thru the address you have provided) then receive a postal mail with a unique code and instruction to verify.
The advantage of this effort? You will be listed on Google Maps so consumers can find you quickly and you will have your own Knowledge Panel (seen at the right side of Google) showcasing all relevant details of your company (website, direction, contact, open hours, reviews, descriptions, photos). Update your listing (with url linking to your website or branded images) at least twice a week to emphasize your “being at the moment”.
Imagine the online visibility that you will get supported by Google and the information you give side-by-side when people search your branded keywords! What’s nicer is to have a performance report emailed to you every month, this way you can understand your market even more and be able to tweak your strategy as needed.
2. Facebook Fan Page – Indicate proper name and correct contact details on your page. If you haven’t done yet, validate your page now by going to “Settings” – under “General” – click “Page Verification” then “Verify this Page”. FB is consistent reminding page admins that “Verified Pages show up higher in search results” and they mean it.
Call is the easiest way. Upon encoding your number (should be similar to your published contact details), your phone will immediately ring and an automated bubbly female voice will give your verification code.
At times, Facebook would require more proof of identity. You may also submit the following documents (must show your page name as the company and published address):
- Business utility or phone bill
- Business license
- Business tax file
- Certificate of formation
- Articles of incorporation
After a few days, you will be prompted that your page is finally verified with a checkmark visible.
You want to make sure that people believe that your business is real and not fly-by-night, get their trust. GMB and FB validation is one those guarantees you can offer them.
